U.S. Military Launches New Attacks on Iran Following Reports of Soldier Deaths

The U.S. military launched a new round of attacks on Iran Saturday night after announcing the deaths of two soldiers caused by an Iranian attack in Jordan, stating the strikes were punishment against the Iranian military.

Foreign news agencies reported that on Saturday (18 Jul), the U.S. military revealed it had launched new airstrikes against Iran to swiftly punish Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps following an attack in Jordan that killed two American soldiers, left one missing, and hospitalized four others.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated the attack aimed to degrade Iran's capability to disrupt the passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

The latest casualty report increased the number of U.S. military personnel killed since the conflict with Iran began on 28 February to 16, with more than 430 wounded.

CENTCOM posted on social media that on 17 July, two U.S. military personnel died in Jordan during duty while CENTCOM and allied forces jointly defended against missile and drone attacks from Iran. Additionally, one service member remains missing in action during operations.

On Friday, prior to the Jordan attack, Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei warned of an "unforgettable lesson" if the U.S. continued its attacks on the Islamic Republic.

The statement, broadcast on government television, also declared that U.S. President Donald Trump's signature was "worthless and unenforceable," while Iranian negotiators said Tehran is suspending commitments under a temporary agreement signed about a month ago.

This declaration from Tehran severed another fragile link in relations amid ongoing war without signs of ending. Khamenei warned of a "lesson" not only from Iran but also from regional armed proxy groups, calling them the "letters of resistance."

Meanwhile, the U.S. issued a worldwide travel advisory due to escalating regional tensions.
