Global Oil Prices Surge After U.S. Strikes Iran for Ninth Night Ship Catches Fire in Strait of Hormuz

Global crude oil prices rose over 2% after the U.S. launched its ninth consecutive night of attacks on Iran and a ship caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz, amid concerns that the situation could affect energy supplies.

On 20 July 2026 GMT+7, international news agencies reported that global crude oil prices surged during Monday morning trading following the U.S. conducting attacks on Iran for the ninth straight night. Meanwhile, a ship caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz, causing investors to worry that the Middle East conflict could disrupt oil transportation along this strategic global route.

Reports indicate that Brent crude for September delivery rose 2.72% to $90.50 per barrel, approximately 2,980 baht per barrel, even briefly surpassing $91 or about 3,000 baht, marking its highest level since June. Meanwhile, U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude increased 2.39% to $84.46 per barrel, roughly 2,780 baht per barrel.

The United Kingdom's Maritime Trade Operations Office revealed that a ship caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz, about 15 kilometers northwest off Oman’s coast. However, the cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed.
