Donald Trump has threatened to destroy one Iranian bridge or power plant each time Iran fires on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, which was the trigger for the US to launch attacks on Iran again two weeks ago.
On Wednesday, 22 Jul 2026 GMT+7, Donald Trump, US President, posted a threat to Iran on Truth Social, saying the US would bomb and destroy one bridge or power plant every time Iran targets ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, amid daily exchanges of fire with no signs of stopping.
“From now on, every time the Islamic Republic of Iran fires on ships in the Strait of Hormuz—whether by missile, rocket, drone, or any other device or weapon—the United States will bomb and destroy one bridge or power plant, including those near or within Tehran, the capital,” Trump’s message stated.
Previously, Trump threatened to target Iranian civilian infrastructure, which could be considered a war crime, and said in an interview with Fox News last week that the US would “destroy all Iranian bridges unless they come to the negotiating table.”
This latest threat from Trump comes as a new round of retaliatory attacks between the US and Iran has lasted nearly two weeks, with the US focusing on targets in Iranian cities and ports in the Strait of Hormuz area, while Tehran responds by attacking US military assets in Arab nations such as Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
On the same day, Iran accused the US of using the Pickaxe Mountains as a pretext for further attacks after Trump stated he would strike the site due to suspicions of an underground nuclear base, which Iran denies.
“Washington’s fixation on Kuh-e Kolang (Pickaxe Mountains), where no nuclear activity occurs, is just a fabricated excuse for invasion, destruction, and sabotage,” said Esmail Bagaee, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, on the platform X.
The Pickaxe Mountains house a heavily fortified underground facility located in central Iran, just one mile from the Natanz uranium enrichment plant, which was bombed by the US and Israel in June last year.
According to the Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS), this facility is buried at least 100 meters underground beneath a large mountain named Kuh-e Kolang Gaz La, where “Kolang” translates as Pickaxe or Eater.
Trump said on Tuesday that the US would attack the Pickaxe Mountains “soon” and that nothing Iran could do would stop this attack.
