On 25 July 2026, foreign news agencies reported that the Russian military launched multiple waves of missile attacks against Ukraine, resulting in at least 15 deaths. Most casualties occurred from short-range missile strikes targeting a drone technology exhibition near Kyiv, attended by many key defense industry personnel.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed on social media that the daytime attack left about 100 injured. He added that relevant agencies are urgently investigating the incident, including why such an event was held and whether security measures were adequate.
In addition, five people were killed in a Russian drone bomb attack in Sloviansk, located in eastern Ukraine.
A spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia fired three short-range missiles, with air defense systems intercepting only one. The Russian Ministry of Defense admitted responsibility, claiming it used precision-guided weapons to strike the drone exhibition site, which Russia described as a UAV demonstration platform used to target civilian sites in Russia, involving drone manufacturers, drone force personnel, and Ukrainian intelligence officials.
Reports noted this was at least the third time since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 that such drone technology exhibitions have been targeted. Ukrainian society has heavily criticized the public nature of these events, saying it may increase security risks.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military launched a counterattack on the Russian city of Kirov, more than 1,000 kilometers from the front line, causing six deaths and 26 injuries. The strike also damaged a warehouse belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer.
