The Houthi rebel group in Yemen claimed they fired missiles and launched drone attacks on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coastal cities, asserting this was in retaliation for Saudi airstrikes on Yemeni ports last Friday.
On Saturday, 25 July 2026, the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen announced they targeted Saudi Arabian facilities along the Red Sea coast after Riyadh conducted airstrikes against the Houthis just one day earlier, marking a new front in the Middle East conflict with potential to escalate further.
A statement from the Houthi armed forces said they carried out “two qualitative military operations.”
“The first operation targeted factories and high-risk facilities belonging to Aramco in the city of Jizan, using ballistic missiles and dozens of drones. The second operation focused on Aramco facilities in Yanbu with ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and several drones,” the Houthi statement said.
Video footage verified by CNN showed large fires burning in Jizan’s industrial area, which houses a major Saudi oil refinery.
Saudi Arabia has not yet commented on the Houthis’ claim of responsibility but issued security warnings to residents in Yanbu and Jizan early Saturday morning.
The Houthis also condemned Saudi Arabia’s airstrikes on Yemen’s Hodeidah port last Friday, describing it as proof of Riyadh’s “determination to continue besieging our people and violating our country’s sovereignty.”
“This criminal enemy will receive nothing from us but resistance and confrontation from our legitimate stance,” the Houthi statement added, emphasizing that their naval blockade of Saudi shipping routes declared earlier in the week “remains in effect.”
“We will not hesitate to expand our operations and escalate our activities depending on developments in the coming hours and days,” the statement concluded.
