China has evacuated more than 20,000 people in its southern region as Typhoon Noul moves closer, causing flight cancellations and delays.
On Saturday, 25 Jul 2026 GMT+7, Chinese state media reported that officials evacuated over 20,000 people and suspended train services in southern China due to Typhoon Noul approaching, which threatens heavy rain and gale-force winds.
China's National Meteorological Center revealed that the typhoon is expected to make landfall along the coast from Hong Kong to Guangdong between Saturday evening (25 Jul) and Sunday morning.
Authorities maintained an orange typhoon warning on Saturday, the second-highest level in the four-tier system, after warning that parts of Guangdong and neighboring Fujian provinces would face strong winds and heavy rain.
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported Friday evening that over 20,000 residents in Guangdong have been evacuated, and fishing boats operating in the province’s seas have returned to port to "avoid the storm."
CCTV added that Guangdong will suspend some train services on Saturday morning and all train services on Sunday. Local reports said schools in Chaozhou city, Guangdong, have been ordered to halt all activities to prevent danger from heavy rain and strong winds.
Hong Kong International Airport announced Saturday evening that the typhoon has begun affecting flight operations. As of 16:50, 29 outbound and 20 inbound flights were canceled, while 126 outbound and 112 inbound flights were delayed.
It is also expected that a "large number" of flights will be affected on Sunday. The Hong Kong Airport Authority advised passengers to check the latest flight information from their airlines.
In the past month, southern and central China have already suffered severe weather damage, with 39 deaths from Typhoon Maysak causing severe flooding in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and thunderstorms with strong winds in Hubei province resulting in 11 deaths and 331 injuries.
