A shooting occurred during Seattle’s annual food festival in Washington state, USA, on Sunday evening local time, resulting in two fatalities and injuries to a 2-year-old child. Authorities are actively pursuing the perpetrator.
Seattle Fire Department reported receiving a call about a shooting at the Bite of Seattle Festival, the city’s annual food event held at Seattle Center, just one block away from the city's famous landmark, the Space Needle, shortly after 6:00 PM local time.
Officials found two deceased at the scene and transported four injured individuals to hospitals, including a 2-year-old child. Harborview Medical Center stated that at least one patient is in critical condition, while another injured person received minor treatment and declined hospital admission.
As of now, police have not disclosed details about any suspects or the motive behind the shooting. It remains unconfirmed whether anyone has been arrested. Police, rescue units, and multiple agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), have cordoned off the area to collect evidence and conduct investigations.
At the time of the incident, the Bite of Seattle Festival was underway, featuring hundreds of local food vendors, live music performances, and a large number of attendees.
A video circulating on social media shows people walking among food stalls before gunshots ring out, causing attendees to panic and flee in chaos to save themselves.
Two witnesses at the event told KOMO TV, a CNN affiliate, that they heard about 7-8 gunshots and saw people running in all directions to escape.
Following the shooting, the Seattle Center Monorail announced it would suspend service for the remainder of the day for safety reasons and planned to resume operations Monday morning local time.
