Israels Defense Minister Claims US Blocks Attacks on Irans Energy Sector

Israel's Defense Minister revealed that the United States has blocked Israel from attacking Iran's energy infrastructure out of concern it could trigger a global economic and energy crisis.

On Tuesday, 28 Jul 2026 GMT+7, Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz said at a conference hosted by Israel's Channel 14 television that the US is preventing his country from attacking Iran's energy infrastructure due to economic and energy concerns.

“We are very eager to strike Iran's energy targets, but the US has not yet agreed,” Katz said, adding that the Washington government worries such attacks might provoke Iran to retaliate against neighboring countries and ignite a global oil crisis.

Katz also confirmed that US warplanes operate from Israeli territory as a launch point for strikes on Iran. “Iranians are firing at every country in the region except one, Israel. They know well that American fighter jets and refueling planes take off from here to carry out these operations.”

Katz emphasized that Israel would respond forcefully if Iran directly attacks them. “If Israel is attacked, we will retaliate with all our might. We have attacked Iran twice already and are ready to strike a third time.”

Katz's remarks came just hours before US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met at the White House on Tuesday, marking their first meeting since the war with Iran began on 28 Feb 2026 GMT+7.

Katz also acknowledged disagreements between the two countries regarding the approach to the Iran strategy.

“The US has interests in Iran beyond those of Israel,” he said. “Right now, we are not alone; we have the United States watching to see whether it will return to combat or choose to operate differently.”
