Iran Claims 4 IRGC Members Killed Following US-Saudi Airstrikes in Iraq

Iranian authorities claim that a joint US-Saudi airstrike in Iraq on Wednesday killed four members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Hassan Kamari, Deputy Governor of Markazi Province for Political, Security, and Social Affairs, told Iran's official news agency IRNA that four IRGC members were killed in the joint US-Saudi airstrike in Iraq last Wednesday (29 Dec 2026).

Kamari stated that the four soldiers were on duty providing security for the Arbaeen pilgrimage in Diyala province in eastern Iraq before they were killed.

The Arbaeen ceremony marks the end of a 40-day mourning period commemorating the death of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, in the 7th century.

Karim al-Kinani, spokesperson for the armed alliance Hashed al-Shaabi, also known as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), disclosed that six Iranian pilgrims were killed in the attack.

“Regardless of their professions in Iran, these six individuals entered Iraq as pilgrims, not as fighters or advisers as has been claimed,” al-Kinani said.

According to PMF reports, the US-Saudi airstrikes on Wednesday morning local time resulted in at least 20 deaths and 32 injuries.

Saudi Arabia announced its cooperation with the US in conducting airstrikes against Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq on Wednesday, following repeated drone attacks on Saudi crude oil facilities by Iraqi armed factions over the preceding two days.
