The Israeli Prime Minister revealed that the military used over 700 tons of explosives to destroy Hezbollah's underground tunnel network in southern Lebanon, noting these tunnels were used to attack Israel.
On 30 Jul 2026, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Katz issued a joint statement saying the Israeli military destroyed various tunnels in the Beaufort area of southern Lebanon using approximately 700 tons of explosives.
The statement said the underground infrastructure was central to Hezbollah’s plan to invade communities in northern Israel, adding the operation followed Hezbollah’s “blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement” last Wednesday.
“The State of Israel will not accept any violation of the ceasefire agreement,” Netanyahu and Katz said, warning that any attempt to harm Israeli forces or civilians will be met with a “severe and powerful” response.
The statement further said the Israeli military will “remain in the security zone in southern Lebanon and continue destroying terrorist infrastructure to prevent Hezbollah from rebuilding its capabilities.”
Hezbollah has not yet issued any comments regarding the Israeli statement.
