Trump Reveals Iran Talks to Begin Monday, Confident in Hormuz Strait Deal and Nuclear Disarmament

Trump revealed that negotiations with Iran might begin on Monday, adding that discussions with several Middle Eastern countries led him to cancel a major attack plan, while Iran stated that talks regarding the Hormuz Strait are close to reaching a conclusion.

On 2 August 2026, Donald Trump, President of the United States, disclosed that talks with Iran are likely to start on Monday, 3 August local time, possibly conducted through intermediaries. He expressed confidence that an agreement could be reached concerning the management of the Hormuz Strait and Iran's nuclear disarmament.

Trump said that discussions with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Iran influenced his decision to cancel a major military operation originally planned for Friday, 31 July. However, the US leader did not reveal details about the negotiation format or the specific terms to be discussed but noted that the talks might lead to an agreement on the opening and management of the Hormuz Strait, a vital global oil and energy shipping route.

Meanwhile, Abbas Araghchi, Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs, revealed that negotiations between Iran and Oman on managing the Hormuz Strait are in the final stages, with discussions ongoing to reach a conclusion.
