A small tourist plane crashed near the archaeological site of the "Nazca Lines" in southern Peru, resulting in 13 fatalities, most of whom were foreign tourists.
Peru's government news agency Andina reported that the deceased included seven Italians, two Spaniards, and two Germans, while officials continue to verify the nationalities of the remaining victims.
Peruvian authorities revealed that the plane belonged to the private company Aerodiana, which operates sightseeing flights. The flight departed from Pisco Airport before crashing in Pueblo Viejo, near the Nazca archaeological reserve.
The flight's purpose was to take tourists to view the "Nazca Lines," a group of massive desert geoglyphs registered as a World Heritage site, visible only from the air or observation towers, making it a major tourist attraction in Peru.
The Peruvian Attorney General's Office dispatched officials to inspect the crash site and recover the victims' bodies, confirming that foreign tourists were among those killed.
The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru stated that it is coordinating with the embassies of the countries whose citizens died to facilitate assistance and support for the victims' families.
Aerodiana's website notes that the company has been offering Nazca Lines sightseeing flights for over 14 years, while the cause of this accident remains under investigation by authorities.
