Northwestern China has been hit by continuous heavy rainfall causing flash floods that have widely damaged roads, infrastructure, and residential homes, especially in Shaanxi and Hubei provinces.
China's CCTV news agency reported that Shangluo City and Jiasui District in Shaanxi Province have enacted a level 3 flood emergency response, ordering the closure of all tourist sites and rafting activities, suspending public transport, halting construction and industrial operations, and implementing traffic controls on main roads and several toll stations.
Reports state that heavy rain has affected 54 villages across 9 subdistricts, with a total of 345 homes damaged or collapsed, and more than 5,000 residents evacuated from high-risk areas.
Meanwhile, in Yichang City, Hubei Province, authorities have preemptively evacuated 1,582 people after heavy short-term rains caused rapid rises in river and stream water levels.
Particularly in Ziguai District, floodwaters have overflowed into low-lying areas and several rural communities, damaging transportation routes and infrastructure. Officials remain vigilant due to ongoing risk of further flooding if the rain continues.
