A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck off the western coast of the Philippines, with tremors felt as far away as Manila, the capital city.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) stated that the earthquake occurred at 10:38 a.m. local time, with its epicenter approximately 21 kilometers southwest of Mamburao city in Occidental Mindoro province, and at a depth of about 10 kilometers.
A Reuters eyewitness in Manila reported feeling the tremors inside an office building in the capital, while officials in government agency buildings ordered staff to evacuate temporarily for safety.
PHIVOLCS initially indicated that no damage is expected from this earthquake, but warned that aftershocks may occur.
