Iran's top security official revealed the conditions the U.S. must meet before Tehran agrees to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, including lifting the maritime blockade.
On Saturday, 8 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Mohammad Baqer Soltani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, released a list of demands the U.S. must fulfill before Iran agrees to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. These include lifting the blockade of Iranian ports, withdrawing military forces, and permanently ending the war.
Additionally, Soltani called on the U.S. to compensate Iran for damages caused by the conflict and to unfreeze all of Iran's seized assets.
“These are the demands of the Iranian people, which they have proclaimed loudly throughout 160 days of steadfast resistance both on the battlefield and in the streets,” Soltani stated. “As long as America does not change its behavior, the Strait of Hormuz will definitely remain closed.”
Previously, Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, revealed that Iran and Oman are close to reaching an agreement on joint management of the Strait of Hormuz.
However, he warned that reopening the Strait depends on other conditions, including U.S. compensation for violations of the memorandum of understanding agreed upon by both countries in June.
Oman's Foreign Ministry stated that the negotiations are progressing in a “positive and constructive” direction.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Iran’s national television station (IRIB) reported that the majority of Iran’s parliament members have agreed in principle to the cooperation framework with Oman but are still awaiting “final approval.”
