A tragic incident occurred in Minnesota, USA, where a 41-year-old man killed his wife and 7-year-old daughter inside a home operated as a nursery before shooting himself. Police also found the body of a 78-year-old female relative murdered, believed to be connected to the case.
Hopkins police in Minnesota, USA, reported a heartbreaking incident in which a 41-year-old man stabbed his 41-year-old wife and 7-year-old daughter to death inside a home functioning as a daycare center, or nursery, before shooting himself.
The incident occurred at about 9:00 a.m. local time at Brown Bear Childcare in Hopkins, a suburb of Minneapolis. Six other children were inside the daycare at the time but were safely evacuated without injury.
Police stated that a parent who had brought their child to the daycare witnessed the event in the basement of the home and alerted authorities to investigate.
Brent Johnson, chief of Hopkins police, revealed that officers found three deceased individuals: the 41-year-old man who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and the 41-year-old woman and 7-year-old girl who had stab wounds.
More than three hours later, Burnsville police—about 32 kilometers from Hopkins—were called to a stabbing incident at a residence where they found a 78-year-old woman dead from stab wounds.
Matt Smith, chief of Burnsville police, said the 78-year-old woman was a close relative of the suspect and that the 41-year-old man had previously lived at that residence. Authorities believe the two murders are connected.
However, police have not released the names of the deceased and have yet to determine a clear motive. Investigations are ongoing to establish whether the murder of the relative in Burnsville occurred before or after the killings in Hopkins.
Officials confirmed there are no other suspects and no further threats to the public. The six children present at the daycare have been reunited with their families.
Patrick Hanlon, mayor of Hopkins, said the city is a close-knit community and that the incident represents a significant loss, especially the deaths of a mother and young child. He expressed concern for children who may have witnessed the traumatic events.
Official records show Brown Bear Childcare has been licensed since 2019, can accommodate up to 10 children, and passed inspections in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
