Tourist Boat Catches Fire Off Turkish Coast, 115 Passengers Jump into Sea to Escape

A tourist boat caught fire in the sea off the coast of Turkey, causing passengers to panic and jump into the sea to escape the flames. Coast Guard officers were able to rescue all of them, while the boat was completely damaged.

A dramatic incident occurred on the tourist boat "Toys Boat" off the coast of Fethiye in Mugla Province, southwestern Turkey, on 13 August 2026. A fire broke out on the boat while tourists were cruising the bay, forcing all 115 passengers and crew to put on life jackets and jump into the sea to escape the rapidly spreading flames. The passengers included children.

Footage from the scene showed intense flames and large black smoke billowing from the boat as passengers gradually jumped into the water. The Turkish Coast Guard, nearby vessels, and maritime rescue teams rushed to assist the victims.

Initially, the Coast Guard reported rescuing 107 people from the boat. Later, Turkey's maritime authorities confirmed that all 115 passengers and crew had been safely evacuated ashore.

Reports indicated that at least 11 passengers were taken to hospital after being affected by smoke inhalation, though none were in serious condition. Some children were also examined as a precaution.

The fire caused severe damage to the boat, almost burning it entirely, and reports stated the vessel began sinking after the incident. Authorities are investigating the fire's cause, which remains unknown at this time.

Fethiye is a popular coastal tourist destination in Turkey, especially known for bay and coastal cruises known as the "Blue Tour," which are highly favored during the tourist season.
