A strong 7.7 magnitude earthquake shook off the coast of Flores Island, Indonesia. Authorities have issued a tsunami warning for East Nusa Tenggara and are closely monitoring coastal areas.

On 15 August 2026, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that at 05:58 local time, equivalent to 04:58 Thai time, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Flores Island, Indonesia.

The USGS stated that the earthquake's epicenter was offshore, north of Flores Island, approximately 68 kilometers northwest of Ende city. The quake struck at a shallow depth of only 10 kilometers below the earth's surface.

Initially, authorities issued a tsunami warning for East Nusa Tenggara and are monitoring the coastal areas.
