Taiwan Shaken by 5.2 Magnitude Earthquake No Damage Reported Yet

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Taiwan, shaking several cities across the island. Initial reports show no damage.

On 15 Aug 2026, the Taiwan Central Weather Bureau (CWA) reported an undersea earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude at approximately 19:30 local time. The epicenter was located off the northeast coast, about 52.8 kilometers from Yilan City, at a depth of 66.6 kilometers beneath the Pacific Ocean.

So far, there have been no reports of damage or injuries, and no tsunami warnings have been issued.

Some areas in Yilan County and New Taipei City felt tremors at level 3. Taiwan’s seismic intensity scale ranges from 0 to 7, measuring the perceived shaking at specific locations.

Additionally, the Taiwan Central Weather Bureau reported tremors at level 2 in Hualien County, Taipei City, and Taichung City.
