Princess Eugenie announced the name of her newborn youngest daughter earlier this month as Adelaide Elizabeth Anina Brooksbank, honoring three respected individuals including Queen Elizabeth II.
On Monday, 17 Aug 2026 GMT+7, Princess Eugenie of the British royal family announced on Instagram that she named her youngest daughter Adelaide Elizabeth Anina Brooksbank, in honor of “three individuals we deeply respect and admire, past and present,” including Queen Elizabeth II.
Princess Eugenie's message also stated that the name reflects the history of both England and Portugal, which are “two places we love and call home.”
Adelaide was born in early August at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal, weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces (approximately 2,976 grams). She is the third child of Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, following their two sons: August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, born in 2021, and Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, born in 2023.
Princess Eugenie, aged 36, shared new photos of Adelaide as well as images of her two sons holding their little sister, with the message: “Today marks exactly two weeks since we welcomed our daughter into the world, and since then we have spent incredibly special, warm, and loving moments.”
“We are very happy to introduce Adelaide Elizabeth Anina Brooksbank,” Princess Eugenie’s message said. “Her name honors three people we love and admire, past and present, including Adelaide’s great-grandmother (Queen Elizabeth II), who is always in our hearts.”
“Her name is part of the history of England and Portugal, two places we love and call home,” the message continued. “Oggy and Ernie are already the best big brothers.”
PA Media reported that the name “Adelaide” is believed to be inspired by Queen Adelaide (1792–1849), wife of King William IV, as well as Saint Maria Adelaide of Portugal.
The origin of the name “Anina” remains unclear, but it is believed to have personal significance to Princess Eugenie and Jack, which they have not publicly disclosed.
Adelaide will not hold the title of “Princess,” similar to her two older brothers who do not have the title “Prince,” and she is 15th in line to the British throne, ahead of her great-uncle Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh.
