UK Prime Minister Affirms 100% Support for Ukraine After Russia Threatens Retaliation

The UK Prime Minister confirmed that his country provides 100% support to Ukraine, including assistance with drones and technology, after Russia threatened that Britain would have to pay and face consequences.

On Tuesday, 18 Aug 2026 GMT+7, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham affirmed that his country fully supports Ukraine during this difficult time, emphasizing that the UK's stance has consistently been to help Ukraine defend itself and that this position will not change during his administration.

Additionally, the UK is preparing to share the “Stone Cloak” electronic signal jamming technology with Ukraine to help destroy Russia's air defense systems, supplementing earlier Defense Ministry announcements of providing tens of thousands of drones to Ukraine.

Burnham's remarks followed a warning from the Russian embassy in the UK stating that the use of UK-produced drones to strike deep inside Russian territory intentionally escalates the conflict, and reiterated that London must “pay and be responsible for the consequences.”

Russia claims that Ukraine's attacks have damaged the country's fuel systems and caused economic losses exceeding £35 billion (about 1.57 trillion baht).

In recent months, Ukraine has escalated attacks by sending hundreds of drones deep into Russian territory, targeting oil refineries, transportation networks, and areas near Moscow. Besides foreign-supplied drones, Ukraine also uses domestically produced drones and missiles, such as the FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile.

Meanwhile, Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine, with recent missile strikes hitting multiple areas including the village of Pechenihy, the cities of Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson, resulting in at least 17 deaths.

The UN reported that civilian deaths in Ukraine last month reached 437, the highest since May 2022. In Russia, 69 deaths were reported last week from attacks in Rostov region and other areas.

Western nations have started monitoring for “hybrid warfare” by Russia after mysterious drones were spotted near several security sites in Europe. Recently, Germany found a drone carrying explosives near a Ukrainian transport aircraft at Leipzig airport, prompting plans to enhance intelligence agencies' powers to address this threat.

Hybrid warfare is a combat strategy combining traditional warfare (using weapons and military forces) with unconventional tactics such as cyberattacks, information warfare, and economic or political pressure to undermine a target's security without officially declaring war.
