Russia Launches Drone Attacks on Ukrainian Mall, Killing 15 and Injuring 130, Fears of Many Trapped Under Rubble

Russia launched two waves of drone attacks on a shopping mall in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. The second wave targeted rescue teams, resulting in 15 deaths and 130 injuries.

On 22 Aug 2026 GMT+7, foreign news agencies reported that Russia used drones to strike a shopping mall in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region, central Ukraine, in two waves. The attacks caused at least 15 deaths and 130 injuries, with some people still trapped under the rubble.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks as deeply contemptible and disgraceful. He stated that the attacks happened in broad daylight and involved two waves, with the second wave of drones targeting rescue personnel working on site.

Alexander Hanson, governor of Dnipropetrovsk region, reported that the death toll rose to 15, including two who died in hospital. There were 130 injured, with 29 in critical condition. Officials fear the death toll may increase. Rescue teams from four other Ukrainian regions were urgently deployed to Kryvyi Rih to search for survivors and those possibly trapped under the debris.

The latest attack came just one day after Russia launched a major missile and drone strike on Kyiv, killing 17 people and injuring more than 40. Residential buildings and warehouses were damaged, including a children's hospital and a school.
