Latest Nepal Floods Global leaders and international organizations have expressed condolences and sent support to victims following the major floods in Nepal, which have caused numerous fatalities. They have also pledged humanitarian aid and rescue assistance.
Leaders from various nations and international bodies have shown concern for Nepal after the unexpected severe disaster. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated that Europe is ready to mobilize assistance to the affected areas and expressed sympathy for those impacted, especially the families of the deceased and those awaiting news of missing persons. Meanwhile, the European Union has activated Copernicus, its satellite system, to map flood-affected areas in Nepal and support on-ground response efforts.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to Nepalese Prime Minister Ballendra Shah and confirmed India's readiness to provide humanitarian aid to its neighbor. Teams from both countries are closely coordinating rescue and relief efforts.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated the floods have caused severe damage and urged Canadians in the affected areas to register with the government’s emergency alert system. He assured continued support as rescue operations proceed.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said officials are urgently verifying the safety of Australian citizens in the region and expressed deep sympathies for those affected by the major floods in Nepal and China's Tibet region.
UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband conveyed concern for those impacted, including British nationals in the area and their families, and affirmed the UK’s readiness to assist Nepal, including support for search and rescue operations.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres offered condolences to the families of the deceased and solidarity with those affected. He stated that UN teams and humanitarian partners are mobilizing personnel and supplies to assist impacted communities.
These developments come as the Nepalese government and rescue agencies continue search and relief efforts after heavy rainfall and flooding severely impacted many areas. The international community is preparing to support rescue, relief, and rehabilitation activities. The United States recently announced the deployment of disaster response advisors and provided $500,000 in aid. India plans to send relief supplies and has requested Nepal’s government specify needed items. China has offered emergency financial assistance. Meanwhile, the World Bank is set to allocate up to 25 billion Nepalese rupees (about 6 billion baht) to support rescue, relief, and recovery efforts.
