Japan has issued an emergency level 5 heavy rain warning, the highest level, for Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures, urging residents to quickly find safe shelter due to the threat of flooding and severe disasters.
On 26 August 2026, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued an emergency level 5 heavy rain warning—the highest of five alert levels—for Hakui, Shika, Hodatsushimizu, and Nakanoto in Ishikawa Prefecture, as well as Himi in Toyama Prefecture.
The Japan Meteorological Agency urged residents to take immediate action to preserve life and move to safe areas. If traveling to designated evacuation centers poses risks, officials warned that the warned areas have a very high possibility of severe disasters from heavy rain, including river overflows and flooding in low-lying or underground areas.
Officials advised those unable to safely evacuate buildings to move to higher floors to avoid floodwaters and hazardous areas. They urged the public to monitor warnings and strictly follow official instructions.
