Jiang Chaoliang, former member of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, was sentenced by a Chinese court to death with a two-year reprieve after accepting bribes exceeding 746 million yuan, or about 3.7 billion baht.
On 28 Aug 2026 GMT+7, China's People's Daily reported that Jiang Chaoliang, former member of the 14th Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislative body, was sentenced by the Nanjing Intermediate People's Court in Jiangsu Province, eastern China, to death with a two-year reprieve for bribery.
The court stated that Jiang accepted bribes totaling more than 746 million yuan, approximately 3.7 billion baht, by abusing his power to benefit multiple companies and individuals. After the two-year reprieve period, the death sentence will be commuted to life imprisonment with no possibility of parole or sentence reduction.
Furthermore, all illicit money and assets, including benefits derived from them that have already been seized, will be transferred to the national treasury according to law. Authorities will continue efforts to recover any remaining assets.
According to the verdict, between 1995 and 2025, Jiang used his positions in several major financial institutions and as a senior provincial official to assist companies and individuals in many areas, including business operations, loan approvals, project contracting, and personnel promotions.
