Iran's Supreme Leader has called on Muslim nations, particularly those in the Gulf Arab region, to unite in fighting what he calls the “real enemy,” stressing that anyone who causes division will be regarded as an enemy.
Foreign news agencies reported on 30 Aug 2026 that Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader, issued a message urging Muslim countries, especially those in the Gulf, to unite against what he describes as the “real enemy,” adding that divisions among Muslims only benefit their opponents.
This message was published on Khamenei’s Telegram account on the occasion of Islamic Unity Week, which commemorates the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.
The statement called for unity among Muslims, cooperation in various areas including joint national defense, and declared that anyone who creates divisions among Muslims, whether intentionally or unintentionally, is aiding the enemies of Islam.
He also questioned whether the Palestinians would be left “helpless” if Muslims were truly united in solidarity.
Khamenei has not appeared publicly since being injured in a U.S. and Israeli airstrike six months ago, which marked the start of the Iran war and led to the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the previous Supreme Leader.
This call for unity aligns with a statement he made to Iranians on Friday, where he said he had forbidden any actions that would harm social cohesion and urged authorities to avoid “discouraging words” that could weaken national and public morale.
Khamenei questioned the Gulf Arab rulers, asking whether “lawless troublemakers” would dare to threaten their land and property if the people and governments of the Gulf united under the banner of Islam.
Since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Gulf Arab monarchies have viewed Iran’s revolutionary ideology, its anti-monarchy rhetoric, and regional influence as threats to their political systems.
Amid ongoing conflict, Tehran has launched attacks on U.S. bases and other infrastructure within Gulf countries, further heightening tensions between Tehran and its regional neighbors.
“My repeated advice to Muslim rulers, especially in West Asia and the Gulf, is to identify your true enemy, understand its plans, and confront it,” Khamenei said.
