Lionel Richie, the legendary American singer aged 77, was admitted to the ICU after completing a concert in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, last Saturday. Initial diagnosis shows he suffered from dehydration.
According to TMZ, the first media outlet to report the news, Lionel Richie checked himself into a St. Louis hospital after his performance at The Muny for medical examination and further tests. He is currently in the ICU, with hopes of being discharged on Tuesday, 1 Sep 2025 GMT+7.
Before hospitalization, concertgoers observed that Lionel Richie appeared unwell toward the end of his show. He requested a chair be brought onstage and sat while singing his hit "All Night Long," which was the closing number.
However, Richie was able to finish the performance before deciding to go to the hospital for a medical checkup. Sources close to the tour said this was a precautionary examination, while ABC News sources stated the singer chose treatment out of caution.
Local media St. Louis American reported Richie mentioned health issues to the audience during the concert, saying doctors had told him he was dehydrated. During the show, he drank several electrolyte beverages to help replenish his fluids.
This recent hospitalization occurred about two months after Richie fell ill onstage in St. Paul, Minnesota, in June. At that time, he told the audience he felt dizzy and unwell before ending the show prematurely and being taken to the hospital by ambulance.
That incident led to the postponement of two performances. Richie returned to the stage on 30 June and later thanked fans for their supportive messages, assuring them he was feeling well and grateful for the love and support.
Currently, Richie is touring "Sing A Song All Night Long" with the band Earth, Wind & Fire. His next scheduled concert is on 26 Sep 2025 GMT+7 in San Francisco. There has been no official confirmation on whether this latest hospitalization will affect his tour dates.
Lionel Richie is the creator of legendary hits such as "Hello," "All Night Long," "Say You, Say Me," and "Dancing on the Ceiling." He has also served as a judge on the singing competition American Idol and remains popular on tours across the U.S.
