On 2 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Jia Wuthee, Secretary-General of the Cambodian Investment Board, revealed during the China-ASEAN Business Leaders Summit that Chinese investment in Cambodia in the first seven months of 2026 amounted to approximately $1.5 billion USD, or about 48 billion baht. Most projects are in the manufacturing industry, keeping China as Cambodia's largest investor, accounting for about 83% of total investment in Cambodia in 2025.
Mr. Jia stated that Chinese-supported projects include factories producing medical packaging, tires, automotive parts, electrical and electronic equipment, as well as major infrastructure projects such as the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, and Siem Reap International Airport.
Cambodian authorities note that Chinese investment helps generate jobs, boost exports, and strengthen Cambodia's connection to regional supply chains. They emphasize increasing local manufacturer participation, technology transfer, workforce skill development, and producing higher value-added goods. Additionally, Cambodia values cooperation with China under the Diamond Hexagon Framework, viewing the growing investment relationship as a key pillar of the two countries' economic ties.
