On 3 Sep 2026 GMT+7, foreign news agencies reported that a gunman opened fire at an apartment in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, causing 2 fatalities and the suspect's death after the incident, while 2 police officers were wounded by gunfire.
Police said gunshots were heard on the upper floor of the building. Upon investigating around 16:39 local time, they found the first victim dead at the scene, and a second victim died after being taken to Hennepin County Medical Center. Two officers were shot—one was hit in the leg and is in stable condition, while the other required surgery.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey urged residents to stay away from the Loring Park area. Authorities have yet to release the identity of the suspect, who died in the incident.
Meanwhile, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz expressed gratitude to the officers ensuring public safety and extended support to rescue workers and responders at the scene. FBI Director Christopher Wray stated that the FBI has deployed resources and personnel to assist local law enforcement agencies in the investigation.
