Japan's Meteorological Agency warns of heavy rain across areas from the west to the east over the coming days, following Tropical Storm Kravanh moving close to a rain front and increasing humidity.
On 3 Sep 2026 GMT+7, the Japan Meteorological Agency warned that areas from the west to the east of the country could face heavy rain over the next several days due to Tropical Storm Kravanh and a rain front that are expected to move only slightly, causing overall atmospheric pressure patterns to remain largely unchanged. The agency noted that Tropical Storm Kravanh is not very strong and is moving northward toward Okinawa and the Amami Islands until Friday, after which it is expected to slow and stall.
Meanwhile, the autumn rain front in northern Japan is forecast to move southward and stall over areas from the west to the east starting Thursday, increasing the chance of widespread heavy rainfall.
Senior official Ryuji Nagayama said that weather conditions favoring heavy rain will continue, urging the public to closely follow the latest weather forecasts and evacuate risk areas before authorities issue a level 4 emergency warning. However, it remains difficult to predict exactly which areas will experience heavy rain and the amounts involved, as the storm and rain front positions remain uncertain; even slight shifts could alter where rain clouds form.
