A brutal murder occurred in Mexico when a young musician from a famous rock band, his pregnant wife, their 3-year-old daughter, the nanny, and the family dog were found dead last Tuesday.
The Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico revealed that Jonathan Melendez, 38, the keyboardist of the well-known indie rock band Camilo Séptimo, was one of four victims found dead in an apartment in a luxury neighborhood near Mexico City late Tuesday night (1 Sep 2026 GMT+7).
The other three victims included Ana Paula, Melendez’s 35-year-old wife who was four months pregnant, their 3-year-old daughter, as well as Aleida Romero Victorio, a 21-year-old woman who worked as the family's nanny, and also the family’s dog.
Police believe the murders occurred between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday. Three victims, including the little girl, were shot in the head, while another victim was shot in the back. The Attorney General's Office added that two of the victims were found with their hands tied, and the dog was found with its legs bound.
However, a 6-year-old boy at the scene was found alive and unharmed.
Two men were arrested as suspects in connection with the brutal killings during a joint operation by the State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office, the Federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, and the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security.
The Attorney General's Office stated that a close associate of Melendez, identified as Diego Sebastián "N," is accused of committing the murders.
Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s Minister of Security and Citizen Protection, said one suspect "used a ruse" based on a close relationship with one of the victims to gain entry into the home.
Further details about the circumstances of the murders and the legal status of those detained will be disclosed through appropriate legal procedures.
