Pickaxe Mountain is located near the uranium enrichment facility in Natanz, which was heavily damaged in previous attacks. The site is heavily fortified, featuring two underground tunnels buried deep beneath the mountain.
Pickaxe Mountain is one of the few Iranian locations linked to the nuclear program that has not yet been targeted by the U.S. or Israel. Recent satellite images appear to show construction activity within the site. However, unconfirmed allegations previously suggested that Iran might store some highly enriched uranium there, which could be further enriched for nuclear weapons production.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghai rejected these claims on 22 Jul 2026 GMT+7, affirming no nuclear activities occur at Pickaxe Mountain. He accused U.S. threats of being fabricated pretexts to justify aggression, destruction, and sabotage against Iran.
