The US diplomatic delegation visited Ukraine for the first time and met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to explore ways to end the war, after having spoken with the Russian leader on Saturday.
On Sunday, 6 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner, special envoys of Donald Trump, traveled to Kyiv to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss ending the war, following their meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow the previous day.
Before the meeting, Zelensky stated that Ukraine is ready to discuss "ending the war sooner," but stressed the necessity of "security guarantees as well as a dignified and honorable peace after the war."
Later, the Ukrainian leader posted on social media that his country "has always been constructive in seeking solutions and will continue to be so," adding, "We are focused on bringing the end of the war closer. We want peace, we want security guarantees, and we want a dignified form of post-war peace. Our proposals are ready."
Jared Kushner told Zelensky that President Donald Trump had tasked them with presenting pathways to end the war and creating the right conditions for a stable, long-term peace.
He emphasized that Trump is "deeply committed to seeing this war end," and thanked the United Kingdom, Germany, and France for their peace efforts.
Meanwhile, Whitkoff told reporters that the US team felt "inspired" by the substantive and significant discussions but declined to disclose further details.
The US special envoys said their negotiation efforts would continue "as long as necessary," praising Zelensky for the "excellent" reception during their visit.
Russia and Ukraine agreed to a three-day ceasefire on each other's capitals during the delegation's visit. The envoys had to travel by train from Poland to Kyiv because they were unable to land their plane.
Earlier on Saturday, the US delegation held a three-hour meeting with Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, which Russia described as a "frank and productive" discussion.
Putin's adviser revealed that the talks covered the Ukraine crisis, economic issues, and future Russia-US cooperation projects.
