International news agencies reported that an Amazon cargo plane skidded off the runway while landing at Miami Airport on Sunday, 6 Sep 2026, striking several cars and igniting a fire that resulted in 5 deaths and 5 injuries.
Video footage showed thick smoke billowing from a blue-and-white Boeing 767 that had arrived from Puerto Rico and landed around 2:00 p.m. local time, while several fire trucks rushed to the scene.
Miami Mayor Daniella Levine Cava stated at a press conference, “We can confirm 5 fatalities and several others have been taken to various local hospitals with injuries that are not yet fully known.” She later confirmed that 5 people were injured.
Miami International Airport announced that the incident forced the temporary closure of all runways and taxiways.
The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department posted on X that the plane, operating as Prime Air flight 7598, caught fire after colliding with vehicles, and firefighters are working to control the blaze and assess patient conditions.
The department added that the plane skidded off the runway and hit several cars near the airport, dispatching over 60 firefighters to the scene.
