Lucia Csisic, the current Miss Austria, has died at just 22 years old. She had a congenital heart condition since birth, but no official cause of death has been confirmed yet.
Mission Austria, the organization behind the Miss and Mister Austria pageants, shared the sad news in a tribute post on their Facebook page on Monday (7 Sept), stating, “We are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Lucia Csisic, Miss Austria 2024.”
Csisic won the Miss Austria crown in 2024 and had held the title since then, as no new pageant has been held.
In a Facebook post written in German, Mission Austria said, “We will remember Lucia as a beautiful young woman. We send our heartfelt concern and deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all those close to her during this difficult time.”
The message was signed by Kirstin Rigger, CEO of Mission Austria, and her husband Jörg, adding, “Lucia will always remain part of our Miss Austria family.”
As a public figure, Csisic had openly shared her health challenges. In 2024, she posted on Instagram thanking the pediatric medical team who cared for her as a child.
“Thanks to the dedicated medical staff and doctors who repeatedly saved my life through tireless efforts, I have overcome many difficult times and have been able to live a joyful life,” she wrote at that time.
Additionally, Csisic told Austria’s Heute news agency in 2024 that she underwent her first surgery immediately after birth and described how her health affected her childhood.
“Sports week was held without me. My childhood was completely different from others, but it made me stronger.”
Herzkinder Österreich, an Austrian charity supporting children with heart disease, also paid tribute on Facebook, expressing deep sorrow over Csisic’s untimely death and stating, “At only 22, she left us far too soon.”
The tribute further stated, “Lucia truly embodied hope. She understood well what it meant to grow up with a congenital heart defect, to endure surgeries, and to courageously and cheerfully follow her own path.”
“We will remember her as a warm-hearted, joyful, and impressive young woman — someone who grew from a child into an adult wishing to inspire others facing similar challenges.”
