A tourist bus carrying several dozen passengers overturned in the southern Swiss Alps, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries.
Foreign news agencies reported on 10 Sep 2026, citing Swiss police, that a tourist bus overturned in the southern Swiss Alps in Switzerland, causing multiple fatalities and injuries.
The bus overturned on the road between the towns of Susch and Zernez in the Graubünden region, also known as Grisons, on Thursday evening. Numerous rescue teams and several helicopters were dispatched to provide urgent assistance.
A spokesperson for the Dutch General Tourist Association, representing the tour company OAD, stated there were about 48 Dutch passengers on the bus. The spokesperson told the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf that exact numbers of dead or injured could not yet be confirmed.
Photos circulated online showed the bus lying on its side on a narrow rural road, with numerous ambulances parked nearby and rescue teams actively working at the scene.
Reports indicate the bus departed the Netherlands on Monday and was on a day trip traveling through Switzerland from Austria when the accident occurred. The exact cause of the overturn remains unknown.
Zernez is known as the gateway to the Swiss National Park, a large protected natural area in the Alps covering over 100 square kilometers along the Engadine valley, attracting approximately 120,000 to 150,000 visitors annually.
