The display took place over New York Harbor on Wednesday night, ahead of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, one of the most traumatic events in U.S. history.
The piece, titled "2,977 Lights Over New York Harbor," featured 2,977 drones illuminating the sky and forming images of the World Trade Center Twin Towers to remember the 2,977 lives lost in 9/11.
Organizers said this light art project was developed in collaboration with communities affected by 9/11, including families of the deceased, the first responders who arrived on the day, and survivors.
The drone show was free for the public, aiming to bring people together to remember those lost, reflect on the past, and express unity, as part of the lead-up activities for the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
