Three people were injured; one was burned and taken to the regional hospital, with officials expecting gradual improvement. Among the firefighters, one suffered a broken wrist and another received minor smoke inhalation treatment.
Emergency services in Andalusia said over 200 firefighters and about 20 aircraft were deployed to control and extinguish the blaze. Firefighters are continuously working to contain the fire. However, strong winds reaching 50 kilometers per hour, combined with the steep terrain, caused the fire to spread rapidly.
Previously, authorities ordered about 9,500 residents of Benahavís—a tourist village known for white houses and narrow alleys—and those living in surrounding homes to stay indoors. Emergency alerts were sent in both English and Spanish due to the area's significant foreign population, including many British residents. Additionally, officials evacuated about 50 people from nearby housing developments as a safety precaution. So far, there are no reports of damage to homes or property from the wildfire.
Data from the European Forest Fire Information System shows that since the start of this year, wildfires have burned more than 1.85 million rai in Spain. The country's highest temperature this year was 45.7 degrees Celsius, recorded on 2 Sep 2026 GMT+7 in El Granado, Andalusia.
