Oil Prices Surge 2% After Attacks on Saudi Arabia and Strait of Hormuz, Raising Regional Supply Concerns

Global crude oil prices surged more than 2% after the Houthi group attacked Saudi Arabia, while ships in the Strait of Hormuz were again fired upon, heightening concerns over oil supply in the region.

On 14 Sep 2026 GMT+7, global crude oil prices jumped over 2% following new attacks in Saudi Arabia and assaults on ships in the Persian Gulf, causing investors to worry about further impacts on Middle Eastern oil supply after a key Saudi oil pipeline was attacked and shut down.

Reports indicate that Brent crude futures rose $2.90, or 2.77%, to $107.51 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude increased $2.27, or 2.27%, to $102.32 per barrel. At market open, oil prices surged over 3%.

This movement followed additional attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group targeting Saudi Arabia. Saudi state media released images showing damage to homes and mosques in Jazan province in the country’s south, attributing the destruction to Houthi attacks. The Houthis also claimed to have struck a Saudi military base in a nearby province.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz was hit by gunfire causing a fire, forcing the crew to evacuate the vessel.
