Donald Trump posted a message claiming that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to stop attacking each other's energy targets, just one day after he criticized Ukraine for attacking a Russian oil refinery.
On 14 Sep 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that Ukraine and Russia had reached an agreement not to attack each other's energy infrastructure, just one day after he blamed Ukraine for sending drones to attack a Russian oil refinery, which Trump claimed caused a diesel shortage.
"Ukraine has agreed not to attack Russian energy targets, and Russia has agreed to do the same!" Trump's message on Truth Social stated. "The rise in global diesel prices is mostly due to the Russia-Ukraine war, not Iran."
However, the Ukrainian presidential office declined to comment on this matter, and there has been no immediate response from Moscow.
Trump's claim comes as oil prices continue to rise steadily, and the Iran war enters its seventh month, causing fuel costs and inflation in America to increase just weeks before the crucial U.S. midterm elections in November.
The U.S. leader has consistently stated that the Iran war will end immediately after the midterms and that oil prices will fall, but meanwhile, he appears to have found a new target to blame for the rising fuel prices at the pump.
Over the past weekend, Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a visit to Ireland on Sunday, saying Zelensky must do "one thing"—stop destroying diesel refineries in Russia, as shortages are worsening.
Trump added that he had spoken with Ukrainian leaders about Ukraine increasing attacks on such sites in recent months.
"There are many other targets; don’t attack diesel because it has an impact. It’s hurting people worldwide. We don’t want them attacking diesel... but they are bombing diesel refineries," he said.
In recent months, Ukraine has sent drones to attack several Russian oil refineries far from the border, while Moscow has also escalated long-range attacks, resulting in a sharp increase in civilian casualties.
Last week, Trump said he had "excellent talks" with Russian President Vladimir Putin, affirming that Putin wants to reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
"Putin wants to reach an agreement, and if Zelensky wants to make a deal too, that would be very good," Trump told reporters on Wednesday (9 Sep 2026 GMT+7).
