A 26-meter-high construction crane collapsed in an upscale district of Miami, crashing onto a passing car and causing a fire. The driver and construction workers were injured, totaling four people. Authorities are urgently investigating the cause.
A dramatic incident occurred in the Brickell district, a high-end area of Miami, Florida, USA, when a construction crane about 26 meters tall collapsed onto a car passing beneath it, igniting the vehicle and injuring four people.
The incident happened shortly after 8:00 a.m. local time on Monday. The crane was a piling machine used for driving foundation piles at a construction site before it lost stability and fell.
Miami firefighters reported that two construction workers were trapped under the crane’s wreckage, while the crane operator managed to jump clear before the collapse. All three were taken to a nearby trauma and emergency center with minor injuries.
The woman driving the car struck by the falling crane also suffered minor injuries and was taken to a different hospital. Authorities have not yet released the names of any injured individuals.
After the collapse, firefighters remained on site to manage the situation, especially controlling fuel leakage from the incident and preventing the fire and spilled fuel from spreading until specialists arrived.
Currently, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Miami-Dade County unsafe building officials are inspecting the scene. The cause of the piling machine’s collapse remains under investigation.
