Personal belongings of Brigitte Bardot, the legendary French actress, are being auctioned in Paris, with nearly 300 items starting at less than 100 euros. Part of the proceeds will be donated to an animal welfare foundation.
The personal items of the late French actress and model Brigitte Bardot were put up for auction at the Drouot auction house in Paris, France, with nearly 300 items displayed for fans before the auction opened on Monday.
All items come from Bardot’s two houses in Saint-Tropez and her apartment in Paris, some of which were recreated to be exhibited at the auction event.
Frank Gieu, Bardot’s longtime personal secretary, said each item reflects stories, events, happiness, and moments in her life. They are not just collectibles but tell the story of a woman who became a legend.
Bardot passed away last December at age 91. Throughout her life, she was one of the most important female figures of the late 20th century, from being a model and actress since the 1950s to becoming a symbol of modern femininity and sexual revolution before dedicating herself to animal rights activism later on.
Highlights of the auction include furniture, clothing, religious statues, kitchenware, pans, lighters, jewelry, and a classical guitar, as well as a manual typewriter Bardot used to write letters and her autobiography.
Also featured are Bardot’s Peugeot bicycle and two pairs of Repetto leather ballet shoes. Bardot trained in ballet and helped make the Repetto brand popular after requesting shoes suitable for everyday wear.
The exhibition also includes many portraits of Bardot, including erotic-themed images, as well as jewelry and a personal copy of the Kama Sutra book.
Most items have starting prices below 100 euros, or about 3,800 baht, but auction manager Cécile Dupuis from Millon auction house expects prices to rise significantly due to Bardot’s fans and supporters of animal welfare showing strong interest.
Many items also reflect Bardot’s love for animals, including numerous animal dolls and collars that belonged to her dogs.
Frank Gieu said Bardot could not live without animals around her, and when her pets died, she grieved deeply. All her pets were buried with strict ceremonies in the garden, and their photographs were placed in important spots around the house.
After Bardot’s death in December, her estate was divided between the Brigitte Bardot Foundation and her only son, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, who will also benefit from this auction.
However, in her later years, Bardot faced criticism for using derogatory language against homosexuals and was fined several times for inciting racial hatred.
