Cuban delegates walked out of the United Nations General Assembly after Donald Trump called them a "failed state" and said they were "collapsing."
Foreign news agencies reported that the Cuban delegation, led by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, immediately left the UN General Assembly meeting room while U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a harsh speech attacking Cuba's government system.
On the UN stage, Trump said the Cuban communist government was under unprecedented pressure, labeling Cuba a "completely failed state" and predicting that the Cuban government was "failing like never before and is about to collapse."
Trump further revealed that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is engaged in intense negotiations with the Havana government to bring fundamental change to Cuba, saying, “Let’s see what happens.”
The Cuban delegation chose to walk out as soon as Trump began his remarks. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez responded on X, accusing Trump of spreading "falsehoods."
"The U.S. government lacks the capacity to accept that Cuba is and has the right to be a fully sovereign and independent country," Rodríguez’s message stated.
