Harvey Weinstein, the former influential Hollywood film producer, was sentenced by a court to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a former female assistant.
Foreign news agencies reported on Wednesday, 23 Sep 2026 GMT+7, that Harvey Weinstein, the 74-year-old former renowned Hollywood film producer, was sentenced to 15 years in prison after a jury last year found him guilty of criminal sexual misconduct against his former assistant.
Miriam Haley, the victim, stated in court that the assault had severely impacted her life and her sense of safety in a way that may never be restored.
Weinstein, appearing in court in a wheelchair, denied all allegations but expressed apologies to "everyone who may have been affected by his actions."
Previously, Weinstein had already served six years in prison during three trials in New York on charges of rape and sexual assault. He also faces another sexual crime sentence in Los Angeles.
Originally, he was found guilty and sentenced in Miriam Haley's case in 2020, but in 2024 the New York State Supreme Court overturned that verdict, stating Weinstein did not receive a fair trial. This led to a retrial, and he was again found guilty last year of sexual misconduct against Haley on a single charge.
In the 2020 trial, testimonies were heard from three women: Haley, actress Jessica Mann, and model Kaya Sokola. Haley testified that Weinstein assaulted her in the bedroom of his Manhattan apartment in 2006, which led the jury to find him guilty on that charge.
"I just thought I had to stand up for myself and stand for the truth," she revealed to the BBC regarding her decision to testify in court.
However, in the same trial, the jury acquitted him of assaulting Sokola, and on the rape charge related to Mann, the jury was unable to reach a verdict.
