Three major U.S. media outlets have filed for an emergency court hearing after the White House refused to allow their reporters to work inside, despite a judge temporarily suspending the ban.
On Thursday, 24 Sep 2026 GMT+7, three leading U.S. media organizations petitioned the court for an emergency hearing, accusing the White House of repeatedly violating a judge's order to restore their rights to report from inside the White House amid ongoing tensions between the media and President Donald Trump.
Staff from CNN, Politico, and MS Now reported being denied entry to the White House on Thursday morning, even though Judge Timothy Kelly ruled earlier that day that Trump's ban on these news outlets should be temporarily lifted, citing that it likely violated constitutional due process rights.
Initially, Trump stated he issued the ban due to these outlets spreading “fake news,” but the White House later cited national security reasons instead.
It remains unclear whether the denial of some reporters' entry on Thursday morning was due to administrative delays as the White House worked to comply with the judge's order. Some journalists had their press credentials confiscated while others were allowed entry.
This dispute is expected to impact live television coverage as Trump prepares to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping to the White House Thursday morning, ahead of an official state dinner.
CNN reported that some of their reporters, including senior White House correspondent Betsy Klein, were denied access to the White House. However, one of their producers was allowed inside.
Politico revealed that one of their reporters was denied entry to the White House and had their press credentials confiscated.
Meanwhile, MS NOW reported that White House correspondent Laura Barron-Lopez and another producer were blocked from entry and had their credentials taken, though another MS NOW producer was permitted inside.
