The Taliban government of Afghanistan stated that Pakistan sent warplanes to attack targets in multiple provinces, resulting in the deaths of four civilians amid escalating tensions.
Foreign news agencies reported that on Thursday, 24 Sep 2026 GMT+7, the Taliban government of Afghanistan revealed that Pakistan's military launched air and drone strikes on several areas, including Kandahar province, the stronghold of Taliban supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, as well as Paktia and Khost provinces.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Taliban government, said the attacks killed four civilians and condemned them as crimes. He promised appropriate retaliation. Afghanistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Pakistan's deputy ambassador in Kabul to protest the airspace violations.
Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan's Information Minister, confirmed that the military struck 10 sites in Afghanistan, which he claimed were military locations, in retaliation against terrorist groups using Afghan territory as a base to plan attacks on Pakistan, including a police station attack last week that killed 31 people.
Pakistan accuses the Taliban of harboring the armed group Pakistani Taliban (TTP), responsible for years of violence in Pakistan. The Afghan side denies these allegations and argues that Pakistan does not respect their sovereignty.
Afghanistan and Pakistan had agreed to a ceasefire in March, but border tensions and clashes continue. UNAMA reported that cross-border violence from October 2025 to June 2026 resulted in at least 499 civilian deaths.
