On 24 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Chinese President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan arrived at the White House in Washington, D.C., to attend a state dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, after the two leaders had private talks earlier that day.
Reports stated that President Xi Jinping, dressed in a black suit, and Peng Liyuan, in a red evening gown, stepped out of their official vehicle and walked the red carpet on the north entrance balcony of the White House. They shook hands with Trump and Melania before posing for official photos, following the protocol for welcoming foreign leaders. President Trump wore a tuxedo, while Melania wore a black jumpsuit styled like a tuxedo, featuring a large bow at the collar.
The state dinner included many distinguished guests and billionaires from the technology business sector. Notable attendees included Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia; Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI; and Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.
The state dinner was a key event of this visit, marking a formal and honorable conclusion to the day’s ceremonies, as Xi Jinping made his first visit to the US as China’s president in 11 years.
