The Nor'easter storm has struck the U.S. East Coast, causing coastal flooding and widespread power outages. The governors of New York and New Jersey have declared a state of emergency to handle the situation.
International news agencies reported that tens of millions of people in the U.S. Northeast, from Virginia to Maine, faced the Nor'easter storm, which intensified to its peak on Saturday (26 Sep 2026). The storm brought heavy rain, coastal flooding, power outages, and traffic disruptions.
The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) warned residents to "prepare for major flooding in low-lying coastal areas, including submerged roads, and immediate impacts on homes and businesses."
The NWS also cautioned that the storm would "cause coastal flooding and hazardous beach conditions, strong wind gusts, and heavy rain" in areas including New York City and Boston.
The governors of New York and New Jersey have declared emergencies, forecasting wind gusts up to 86 km/h, heavy rainfall, and flash flooding along the coast. Additionally, Saturday night was a full moon, causing higher tides that worsened coastal flooding in Surf City and Manasquan, New Jersey.
"I urge all New Jersey residents to take this storm seriously, stay alert, and follow local officials' guidance," New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said.
The storm caused nearly 150,000 homes and businesses across several states to lose power. Over 400 flights have been canceled, with more than 1,100 delayed. Authorities have urged people to avoid travel unless necessary and strictly prohibit driving or walking through floodwaters.
The storm forced the cancellation of Ed Sheeran's concert at Gillette Stadium in Boston, as well as the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, New York, which was scheduled to feature artists including Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and John Legend.
