British police have arrested a man holding dual British and Iranian citizenship as a terrorism suspect connected to an incident at Fairford Air Force Base, which had already led to the arrest of five other suspects.
Foreign news agencies reported on 1 Oct 2026 that British counterterrorism police arrested a 27-year-old dual British-Iranian national in Westminster, London, on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act. They are also investigating another 26-year-old British man and have searched two properties in the area.
This development follows reports of three suspicious vans found near Fairford Air Force Base, used by the US for attacks on Iran, leading to the arrest of five British men aged 23 to 25 on charges of explosives offenses and attempted terrorism. One of them reportedly called the authorities himself.
Police confirmed that searches of the three vans found some gasoline but no explosives. The first five suspects have since been released on bail with strict conditions regarding communication and travel.
Vicki Evans from the counterterrorism police stated that the investigation is exploring all possibilities, "including the involvement of a foreign government." She added that the investigation is complex and a team of experts is working intensively on multiple lines of inquiry.
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio both indicated clear signs of "foreign government" involvement, alluding to Iran, which is currently in conflict with the US and has previously threatened to attack bases assisting US strikes on Iran.
Meanwhile, the Tehran government has completely denied the allegations and strongly condemned any baseless and malicious suspicions or attempts to link Iran to this incident.
