Kim Yo-jong Confirms North Koreas Mid-Range Missile Test, Boasts Enemy Detection Impossible

Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korea's supreme leader, confirmed that the military conducted a test of a mid-range missile featuring a mobility system that makes it undetectable by enemies.

On Saturday, 3 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Kim Yo-jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, stated in a press release that the military carried out a mid-range missile test aimed at the sea off the east coast, with her brother personally supervising the firing exercise.

Earlier, South Korea's military revealed that North Korea launched a ballistic missile flying over 700 kilometers toward the sea off its east coast, with Japan also reporting the incident.

Kim Yo-jong, who serves as director of the Workers' Party, referred to Seoul and Tokyo's statements on the missile's flight distance, saying their reports reflect limitations in their missile tracking and detection capabilities.

“Whenever we use a wave-like trajectory mode with our missiles, the enemy cannot track the target from the first bounce point,” she said without providing evidence.

Kim Yo-jong added that South Korea and Japan “should also consider the missile’s speed,” without disclosing figures, and further claimed the missile can alter its low-altitude flight path using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

“In other words, this means there is no way to avoid this attack,” she stated.

North Korea has conducted over 10 missile tests this year, sometimes describing them as new weapons system trials, often following protests against joint South Korea-U.S. military exercises.

This latest missile launch came after Kim Yo-jong issued a statement on Friday rejecting South Korea’s demand for an apology over alleged injuries to South Korean soldiers from North Korean landmines inside the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
